Stumbled across this while trying to discover Steam cart id’s without reconnecting to a VPN account.
As mentioned in this thread, Modern Warfare 2 is only $62 AUD via the UK Steam store, instead of $98 AUD through the Australian Steam store.
Well, there’s a much easier way of grabbing it at the cheaper price, without paying for UK VPN access or signing up to a trial.

Oh, you can also compare prices to other regions. Changing the “uk” in the URL to “it” will take you to the Italian region’s store (Euro currency).
Please note: this method (as opposed to the VPN method) may mean a risk of getting flagged, as your IP when purchasing the game won’t originate from the country you’ve selected.

Yesterday afternoon I decided, contrary to previous intent, that I was going to pre-order Left 4 Dead 2. Mainly because of the recent bombshell regarding Modern Warfare 2’s Steam price, and lack of dedicated server support.
But, I wanted to ensure I play the uncensored version of L4D2. And the best way I could think of was buying it via Steam from a UK IP. So, I signed up to a trial at AnonymitynNetwork.com for this purpose alone.
I connected to their “England” server, started up Steam, threw L4D2 into my store basket for purchase. L4D2 has an App ID of 550 for all regions, but the Aus Cart ID is 202237 as opposed to the UK Cart ID which is 202182 (hence the different version). While there, I’d also check the price of Modern Warfare 2 for shits and giggles. To my surprise it’s available for just 34.99 pounds ($62 AUD) - $36 cheaper than Australian Steam (and retail for that matter).

Honestly, I can’t see valve actively putting measures in place to stop you using other region copys, since they don’t like it either. Still I worry that buying a copy from overseas may be changed/updated by the steam client to the Australian version

I found a post by gabe that i thought equated too “If it remains RC we will just patch it on the pc”, but it was really “If it still is under appeal on release date, and gets MA, we will patch it to full level for all censored versions”

say what so they are sayign that if the oflc doesnt roll over they will just release a patch allowing full gore? or did i misinterpate that

Thats what I thought, but apparently that was only since they had to ship something to make the nov release date, if they had to ship the censored version cus they were waiting on appeal, and then the appeal was successful, they would then release a patch for all the censored copys on shelfs.

Hey ultra will the extra gore really make the game 10 times better (I don’t think so) maybe for the first hour then you get use to it…Hows the gameplay etc graphics(minus the extra gore of course)…Was thinking bout buying this cheers m8…

Get some friends to do the Just to clarify step by step I used to get uncensored version working.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2 demo\left4dead2

Open the steam.inf file which will look like
PatchVersion=1.0.1.0
ProductName=left4dead2
appID=590 -
Changed the appID to say 510 and save the file.

Run the left4dead2.exe from inside the left 4 dead 2 demo folder.
Note: you will only be able to play single player with gore on, no multiplayer at this stage by the looks.
Note2: the steam_appid txt file in the left 4 dead 2 demo folder should also say 510.

Create LAN/LOCAL server
Play with them, not complete MP, but its good fun with friends atleast!

@ mac yes the violance will make it better, i aleast wanna see the body for more that .5 seconds after its dead. if u watch the vid ull see some game play
game play is the same as l4d with different maps and ppl. the graphics are pretty sweet deffs looks like an improvement over l4d the wepsons are abundent with several to find, the scar is burst fire but powerful!!! there are even some guns with silancers.
is it worth buying yes!!! altho im getting my money back from steam and buying a gore version.

just played the sp demo omg gore and violance is sooo good makes it 1337. i got a vid of the whole demo only 15 mins long will upload on xfire when its finished. but it makes it sooo cool

FYI this worked for me:
The part that might trip some people up is after making the 590 to 510 changes you then need to run Steam.
Keep Steam open and then after that run L4D2 Demo directly ‘left4dead2.exe’ (not in the Games list).
