Buyers/Sellers Guide

#1

Guidelines for sellers conducting a FOR SALE thread:

  • State the brand and model of the item you are selling. Provide a link to the product if you can. If you don’t know the brand/model then describe the item with enough specificity that people have a VERY GOOD idea of what it is you’re selling- eg: Asus Motherboard don’t know model, has 1 x agp, 4 x pci, onboard sound.

  • State whether you have receipts for the item, and whether you bought it new or from someone else. This can be important if the person you sell to needs to claim any warranty.

  • State the condition of the item. If it’s a CPU then tell people if it has a chip, or say whether a cdrom is dying and wont read CDRs.

  • If you have a rough idea of what you want for it, then let people know. If you don’t do this, don’t complain if people start offering you too low an amount as you haven’t given them anywhere to start!

  • If you make any statement about an item and it is untrue, especially if you know it to be untrue, then you may be liable for breach of contract, false advertising, misleading & deceptive conduct or unconscienable conduct.

  • If you agree to sell something to someone at price X and they agree to pay it, and then someone else comes along after and offers X+1… DO NOT SELL THE ITEM TO THAT 2ND PERSON . You are obliged to deal with that first person. If you want the best price for your items, don’t close the deal until you are satisfied. See Forum Rule 3.

  • If you choose to list the items in multiple forums please tell buyers this and provide a link.

  • If you wish to list multiple items at once, please list them in a single sales thread where possible.

  • Excessive bumping will result in the closure of threads.

Guidelines for buyers:

  • Do not make offers that you don’t intend to follow through with. ESPECIALLY if you don’t actually have the money to pay. This also includes making offers to bump up prices for your mates, or to annoy other bidders.

  • Make sure you know what you are getting!! Don’t buy anything that you aren’t 99-100% sure you know it’s what you want. Once someone sells you something, as long as they didn’t make any false statements about it they have no obligation to refund your money. Such things include:

  • that it works when it doesn’t
  • that it can do something that it can’t (ie: a 7200 rpm HDD that can only do 5400)
  • that it has something that it doesn’t (ie: advertising a RAID mobo which turns out not to have it)
  • that it has warranty and it doesn’t.
  • Always get as many details about the seller as possible. At least a real name and contact number… address if you’re that pedantic.

  • Don’t attack other buyers/sellers in their threads unless you have legitimate grounds and evidence! If person X is dodgy, don’t spam their thread unless you have evidence to prove such. Preferably, private message a moderator before attacking anyone for this purpose.

  • PM Bids are STRONGLY advised against. If you’re making a bid, do so in the thread so people have a chance to make a counter offer.

Please note that the Oceanic Eagles and its management will not be held responsible for any purchases/exchanges made on this forum board. Buyers/Sellers use at their own risk.
