So i got my parts on saturday which was very exciting. The system specs are:-
Coolermaster RC-692 Adv Case (very nice to work with and cheap)
Intel 2500k CPU
Asrock Extreme6 motherboard
4gb g.skill ripjaws
Gigabyte HD 6970 2GB
Noctua NH-U12P HSF
Zalman 750W PSU (from old system)
2x 1.5TB hard drives (Raid0) for system (from old system) (Sorry mac, no SSD).
2TB hard drive for data and stuff.

Still in the process of OC with john, only running at stable 4.1Ghz (approx 55 degree on load), will bump it up to 4.5Ghz when fixed the multipler droping under load.

Pics. The box which gave birth to more boxes…

That’s a sweet machine, congrats.

Edit: Also point out (though you have already done this) always use the SATA 3 ports that are on the Intel controller (until you run out), the marvell controller struggles under load which will result in lower transfer speeds.

Edit2: How much fun did you have installing the CPU, haha. Something strange about the amount of pressure needed on the P67, even for someone who has used intel’s new retention system numerous times on a P55 system. Felt very firm, but that’s obviously how they’ve designed it.

Shit Hot mate. Im sure your wishing you’d upgraded sooner now seeing the difference from what was to was is.

Only downer is the noctua hiding the tough lookin mofest cooler etc on the board - looks awesome imo.

Hope ya get the oc up to what ya want. But 4ghz + on a quad is awesome no matter the number

#3664

Yeh, the difference it certainly noticeable, my old pc was reaching the end of its life. Lol Az my pc sits under my desk, i don’t mind not seeing the cooler :tongue2:

#3665

looks epic, i should add another fan to mine

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/intel_drops_price_core_i7_970_and_960_cpus

Looks like the i7 960 is going to be priced very similarly to a 950 atm which means that they’ll probably take a price dive too. If the owner of that 920 doesn’t come to his senses, I might just hold off a few weeks and see what a 950 will set me back.

#3667

The 920 is a done deal, $230 pp.

#3668

Nice going Nip. Gonna be interesting to see how it fairs against the 940!

#3669

Looks good blade i’m sure games are looking heaps better with full detail selected…:wink2:

n1 nipper a new toy to play with…

#3670

All I can say is that it had better outdo it, lol.

4.00GHz with HT on is my goal. Not a far stretch at all. Looked up the batch number online and they seem to do ok, better than my 940 anyway.

#3671

good stuff nip

#3672

Nice rig blade

And good luck with the new cpu Nip.

#3673

Board should be here tomorrow.

Cards ordered, should be here friday. Went the HIS reference ones - neither here or there for what card to get … it wont be too far away and the fan shrouds will come off anyway.

#3674

goin a full loop az?

that will look sick

#3675

CPU shipped today, not long now. Pretty happy with price after keeping an eye on this. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160547803628&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Doesn’t have batch number either, I asked him for it and he no longer has the original box, so a big gamble really. At least I sort of know what I’m getting.

Reference cards are the safest bet you you are going to drown them. Far more blocks available. Although I think I recall you saying that you are only WC’ing the GPU (which is what I would do and WILL DO too) and just use those little heatsinks on all the mem chips/VRMs. Probably doesn’t matter if it’s reference or not in that case, like you said performance is no different.

#3676

as Azza doesn’t give a shit for idle temps, heres a run on LinX

#3677

Nice load temps mate.

Just remember to always stress with all RAM when using LinX, better display of system stability. Most likely wouldn’t affect load temps still, so your cooler is doing a great job which isn’t surprising.

LOL’d at your background.

Looks like wc kits are the new target : EK gets in on the act : http://www.ekwaterblocks.com/shop/kits-cases/kits/ek-kit-h3o-supreme-hf-360.html

So much more to give that cpu cab… go on, sneak it up

Yeah mate, will be putting the gpus under water soon.

Will run em on stock cooling for a while, then grab a pair of uni blocks and ram sinks. Only thing is i may need to piss the mcr220 off as i might need a bigger pump to get around 2 rads, cpu and 2 gpus. Currently lookign into whether i can drop the 350 out and put the 355 in … otherwise its separate rad/res/pump ( which i really didnt want to do)
