Wicked, is it another EX58-EXTREME or a newer model?

#122

New x58 extreme(OEM - so board only, no accessories). As long as it works im not fussed lol

#123

That’s still pretty good, brand new board for a broken 2nd hand one without proof of purchase.

Makes me wonder though, how many do they have sitting in the warehouse? It doesn’t make a real lot of sense to me to have older revisions on hand, just in case they get an RMA. They could sell their inventory of soon-to-be-replaced boards before the latest model comes out, then if someone with an old board needs a replacement, they could just give them the latest variant of the board the customer RMA’d. The development costs of the newer boards are generally less than the model they’ve just replaced, it’s win win.

The manufacturer replaces the buggered board with one that cost them less to make, yet has the same, if not better features, and they haven’t lost a shit load of money from boards they’ll never sell.

#124

Yeah i know what ya mean … but i dare say the mobos prolly cost them a pittance to make … and retail sales make the profit, then its make sure the main warehouses have stock until the manufacture warranty period finishes.

Im certainly not sooking… finally the saga ends and i have still a bargain… $170 in total for a brand new motherboard, and pristine nick accessories ( coming prob early next week). Not the ripper bargain i thought i was initially getting, but much better then just throwing $120 down the tube.

In other news my ram arrived today too :D.

Will take a pic of the stuff and then the fun time begins

#125

Good point, would cost them bugger all to make them, majority of the cost would be in R & D. It’s hard to think about it from the perspective of a multi-million dollar company, seems so wasteful.

Nice, can’t wait to see it all.

#126

Project delays … asus board wont work in the k-62. The lian li expansion slot retention system doesnt work with the soundcard zzz.Was gonna go the giga for me, so i’ll have to switch it back over tonight … mind you not getting much done atm… put a steel rod through me boot and nicely into one’s foot.

#127

I’m quessing the steel rod won that battle ouch… Plenty of time m8 will be good too see it up and running…:wink2:

#128

Can’t use a regular screw to hold the soundcard in? I’ve never seen the Lian-Li retention clips in RL, but with CM’s system (despite it being shit in comparison to LL’s) you have the option of using a screw if you want to.

OUCH!!! Sounds nasty.

#129

yeah steel always wins it seems lol.

As to the retention, its either all on or all off from the look of it … which i would rather leave on as its a kick ass plus for the case. No biggy … just means more moving lol.

#130

Some fun to be had

Yummy timings :shades:

#131

Freakin awesome Az, tho the foot sounds bloody awful!

#132

Hardware porn.

#133

So its looking like ill go for a gtx 570 unless something awesome pops up in th next few days or so…

The dilemma is : which non-ref one to get ???

Personally im leaning towards the giga or the gainward GLH … not a fan of triple slot coolers ( even though h20 aint far away )

#134

i’d probably go with the GLH Gainward myself, though the GB cooler would be nice, loud i think but cool

#135

They all look awesome. I’d go GB as it is the cheapest but the Gainward Phantom looks the best despite taking up more than two slots.

If you are considering full cover water blocks, then make sure that they are compatible with the PCB if it is not a reference design (100% sure you know this already). Obviously doesn’t matter if you go universal.

#136

Yeh if you’re goin for water soon the giga seems the smart move. But damn the Phantom looks the bomb :shades:

#137

Phantom or GLH gainward ftw…

#138

Are u gonna watercool it az? If not the Phantom cooler is fkn ultra quiet couldn’t here it running even under load + the temps where 65c full load…I’ve read reviews on the glh cooler is noisy and i don’t really like the asus…Gigabyte’s a good buy if your gonna watercool just try and confirm if a water block will fit etc…:wink2:

#139

acer 24" led bought :wink2:

i dare say ill grab a phantom like yours mac ( and then water cool it making the moster of a cooler reduntant in no time too lol).

#140

the evolution continues -

seen a bargain too good to refuse so have just bought a 6970 for $260 lol. Ahwell, same power as gtx570 for $140 less

One more chance amd… one more chance to show me the goods!!!

hmmm anyone want a 6870? lol
